From Les Ferguson:

Good Morning Pike Lake Cottagers and Neighbours:

The South Saskatchewan River Watershed Stewards (SSRWSI) is offering nursery trees and shrubs available for planting at no charge. The plantings average 12“ in height with a 6” root plug. These trees are free and are offered in a minimum of 100, or a maximum of 400.

You as an individual . . . or representing a group of neighbours can apply.

The available nursery tree and shrub species are Chokecherry, Dogwood and Trembling Aspen . . .  all species native to Saskatchewan.

Planting trees and shrubs has several advantages:
  •    Ecological benefits include soil stabilization in vulnerable areas, creating habitat for wildlife, air purification, and decreased runoff.
  •    Economical benefits show in reduced heating costs if planted in a way to block winter winds, and in reduced air conditioning if they are planted to provide summer shade.
  •    Planting trees and shrubs provide aesthetics, a way to enjoy the outdoors, and exercise. Spending time with nature reduces stress levels. Trees create a quieter neighbourhood.
We hope that you consider this opportunity to benefit your community. Please contact Lloyd or Chelsey at the South Saskatchewan River Watershed Stewards at 306-343-9549 or,  before May 12 as to how many trees of each species you want to order.
